Creative Collaborative Project "Under the Prairie Sky" - King George School

The riveting is done!  Over 2000 rivets set and the fescue grass is now complete.  Just have to blacken the riveted plates.  Now I am hard at work on the framework.

The kids are all so excited; this is a big deal. We are very fortunate to have piece of your work at the school.

Nice weather today (Sunday), so I stopped the frame construction and spent the day oxidizing all the riveted plates. It had to be done when it as fairly warm out and still needed the added heat of a heat gun and an acetylene torch to make the chemical reaction take place.

The lower panel is partly built, and will be working on the bracket for the tree in the next few days. The backing plate is cut and ground to fit inside the frame. The inner structure has to be cut and welded then the tree has to be built (branches welded on) and the 1/2" flat brackets welded on. Picked up the stainless steel bolts on Saturday and a friend dropped off his flat deck trailer for transporting. My poor '72 GMC 1/2 ton dropped a few inches from the weight but it's used to pulling cars around.

Our dinner guests dropped by early today and Lori, Jo, and our kids, Kierra and Caelin all took turns helping out. Jo ended up cooking dinner! Thanks to you all!

Corinne will post progress pictures soon but I'm guessing another week and a half before I can drop it off to the powder coaters. It's a bit more work than anticipated but I think you'll like it when it finally emerges from it's birthplace! Hang on a bit longer!
